Trifolium subterraneum
Color: Usually an very small whitish flower
Height: 4-12 inches
Subterranean clovers are unique in that they bury their own seed, and are therefore generally an excellent reseeding annual. This characteristic makes sub-clovers tolerant of mowing and grazing. Clover is a legume which fixes nitrogen in the soil. Some common benefits of subterranean clovers are as follows; increases protein in forage quality, improves forage productivity, tolerates heavy grazing, and appeals to livestock. Plant in full sun. Subterranean clover does not generally tolerate frost well and will not survive in cold regions or above 3,000 ft. Sow seed in the fall.
